Up to 26,000 Schools Facing PCB Contamination

Up to 26,000…

On the same day that the agribusiness giant announced plans to set aside a whopping $280 million in PCB personal injury settlements, a study from scientists at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that up to 14 million students in 26,000 schools in the U.S. could be exposed to unsafe levels of the highly toxic chemicals even though they were banned several decades ago.

Posion in Our Schools

Excellent story discussing PCBs in schools. This piece discusses the origin of PCBs and their popularity in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, the ongoing problems at Malibu, the production of PCBs by Monsanto Corporation, and the mixed messages the EPA gives as well as possible collusion with industry.

As these government buildings get old, brittle, and crumbling, these materials are spread even more throughout the building and the grounds and are toxic to our children. PCBs are persistent and migratory. The danger is real.
